Who are we?

what love? love who?

John, the spiritual guide, talks a lot about what it means to live spiritually, to be a spiritual person.  He calls this "being born of God" or "being God's children.  He tells us that people who are living the spiritual life love the people around them; those who don't love people are not 'God's children'.
There are two problems with this:
First.  We have a picture of "love" which is either sexual or sentimental.  Sentimental is just plain inconceivable in this hard-nosed place.  Sex of course is everywhere, and is certainly part of the climb to the top for many people, but we have a niggling sense that this may not be what it means to love the people round us; after all sexual attraction can hardly be applied universally to all those I am with in the various arenas of urban life.
Maybe John can show us what it means?  Maybe it'll come up in a future exploration of what he says.

Second.  In our crowded and ambitious urban environment, we are surrounded by people who want to claw their way to the top over our failure.  It doesn't seem sensible, less still possible, to love these people.  In fact, most of us end up being people who are busy climbing over others for survival in the demanding jungle of urban work-and-play.
Whatever he means by love, this is a tough take on what it means to be a spiritual person!
