Who are we?

decadence

Everything in the urban hub is designed to nurture desire, and to instill it if it isn't there.  The world out there is determined.  No corner is exempt from the attempt to make me want ...
It isn't new.  But it makes spiritual life tough.  A couple of millenia ago John the sage contrasted the spiritual life with the world.  Everything in the world amounts to craving, envy and boasting; it is focused on wanting, owning and achieving.  That just about sums up everything we encounter.
John tells us: "The world and it's desires pass away, but whoever does things God's way lives forever."
All the stuff, all the experiences, all the status is ephemeral.
What lasts is authentic spiritual life.
Even in the city.
