"Whoever winks maliciously causes grief,
and a chattering fool comes to ruin."
What's in a wink? It seems so innocent, even friendly! But isn't it often a way of deceiving one person while enlightening another? Sometimes it is a device for making an unspoken contract to do something dishonest or mean. Winks are subtle, but so frequently part of something that is going to hurt someone.
Of course sometimes it is a way of telling someone we find them attractive; but that is a whole other story ...
