Letter to people in a city

First century Ephesus may not have had ten-story apartment blocks, but it was certainly an urban hub.  It was a major come-to place for the surrounding area, and a big pass-trough place for people travelling from Europe to the Middle East and the reverse.  Like most cities it had certain specialities in trade.  It was also known a a centre for a widespread religion of the time.

But there was also a small group of people from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds who had decided they wanted more than religion.  They wanted a spiritual way that was life-giving.  These people had responded to a message that there was one God who had made a way for people to be in close relationship with him.

One of the spiritual mentors of this group travelled extensively to many such groups.  While he was away, he wrote to them.  This is great for us, because his letter survives and can give us spiritual guidance.  Over the next few months I plan to look at advice from this letter and see what it says to us in our own demanding urban situation.

From one hectic urban hub another ... how do we live well?
