Who are we?

the hard word "discipline"

It is great the way the person who wrote these wise sayings was so in touch with life as a whole.  He is deeply aware of spiritual realities and ethical challenges.  But he makes observations that we wouldn't normally expect in that context.  Every part of life is dealt with in the teacher's sagacious comments.

"Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but whoever hates correction is stupid."
This is so direct!  It is also a challenge if I dare to look at myself honestly.  It is so habitual to avoid the discipline needed to genuinely gain knowledge once I have gone beyond the boundaries of conventional coerced education.  It is so easy to feel that I know enough, perhaps more than others.  Most of all, I find it so very hard if someone points out a fault or shows that I have been wrong.
Do I want to keep on being stupid?  Or can I begin to love knowledge enough to swallow my pride and enjoy discovering new things?  Can I rejoice that other people know better than I do?  Can I become willing to learn?
